Is Parent & Tot the right class?

This class is designed for a young child and one capable adult to learn together under an instructor's guidance.

✓ Your child is 6 to 36 months old

✓ An adult is ready to enter the water and participate throughout class

✓ You want a gentle first structured water experience

✓ Your child benefits from songs, repetition, and guided play

✓ You want to learn safer holds, cues, and practice routines

Four foundations for comfort and safer habits

The instructor guides each adult-and-child pair through simple activities that can become familiar, positive routines.

Comfort & Familiarity

Gentle entries, water on the body and face, blowing bubbles, songs, and predictable routines that make the pool feel more familiar.

Safe Holds & Cues

Adults learn supportive body positions and consistent verbal cues before floating, movement, or readiness-based submersion.

Supported Floating & Movement

Supported front and back positions, reaching, kicking, paddling, and whole-body movement with the adult close and connected.

Wall & Exit Routines

Reaching for the wall, holding on with support, and practicing calm entry and exit routines that families can reinforce.

When is a child ready for Group Level 1?

Group Level 1 begins at age 3. Readiness also depends on whether a child can participate safely without their adult in the water.

Is at least 3 years old

Can separate from their adult for a 30-minute lesson

Can follow simple instructor and safety directions

Can wait briefly while another swimmer takes a turn

Can participate safely in a small-group routine

Comfort grows through connection and repetition

Teach the Adult Too

Adults learn how to hold, cue, and support their child so safer habits can continue beyond class.

Comfort Without Pressure

New experiences are introduced gradually. Children are encouraged, and submersion is never forced.

Purposeful Play

Songs, toys, repetition, and simple games keep children engaged while reinforcing specific water skills.

Layered Water Safety

Lessons build useful habits, but no infant or toddler is safe alone around water. Close adult supervision remains essential.

Questions families ask before registering

No. This is an introductory class for children ages 6 to 36 months, including those having their first structured water experience.

Yes. One capable adult participates in the water with each child and follows the instructor's guidance throughout the 30-minute lesson.

Submersion is introduced gradually, with a clear cue, proper support, and close attention to the child's readiness. Forced submersion is not used as a shortcut to water comfort.

New surroundings and unfamiliar sensations can take time. The instructor will use familiar routines, play, and gradual challenges. A child can observe, reconnect with their adult, and rejoin without being forced.

No. Parent & Tot builds comfort and foundational habits, but no infant or toddler should be considered safe alone around water. Close adult supervision and appropriate layers of protection are always required.

Level 1 begins at age 3. The child should also be able to participate without their adult in the water, follow simple directions, and engage safely in a small-group lesson.

Bring swimwear and towels for both the child and participating adult. A child who is not fully toilet trained should wear a properly fitting swim diaper.

One absence may be made up in another class with available space. A weather-related closure does not count as that absence.
