Parent & Tot Swim Lessons Near Roslyn Heights: The Adult's Role

In a Parent & Tot class, the adult is part of the lesson. Roslyn Heights families considering this format should plan for both people to enter the water, follow the instructor's guidance and get ready together. At Swim Lessons LI, Parent & Tot is designed for children ages 6 to 36 months with one capable participating adult.
You learn the cues as well as the child
The instructor guides adult-and-child pairs through songs, play and simple routines. The adult learns how to support the child and use consistent cues during movement, supported floating and wall activities. You do not have to turn a young child's first class into a demonstration of independent swimming.
Prepare two sets of swimwear
Bring swimwear and towels for the child and the adult who will participate. A child who is not fully toilet trained should wear a properly fitting swim diaper. Pack items where they are easy to reach after class. Before leaving home, confirm the registered time and which adult is getting into the pool.
Make room for an unfamiliar experience
Pool sounds, wet clothing and a new teacher can all be unfamiliar. The program introduces activities gradually and does not use forced submersion as a shortcut to comfort. The adult can help by paying attention to the instructor's explanation and the child's response. Close adult supervision remains necessary outside the class, regardless of what the child practices.
